XPC Project Group
Calls for Participation

The X Performance Characterization project group is looking for members representing the X-workstation, X-terminal, and PC X-terminal emulation markets to help shape the future of the Xlib Playback Benchmark (XPB).

The XPB is a new standard benchmark for measuring X-server performance based on typical user applications. It is currently being ported to XPC project group members' platforms, and standard benchmark files are under development. The first public demonstration of the XPB is slated for August 7 at SIGGRAPH '96 in New Orleans. Planned release date is by the end of 1996.

"There's no doubt that this will be the most representative benchmark of real-world X-server performance in the public domain," says Gary Wiseman of IBM, XPC project group chair. "Companies that are players in the X-server marketplace have an opportunity to have major input into what this standard measures and what applications it tests. Those companies that are working with the benchmark in advance will be much better prepared when the trade press begins demanding XPB results."
