SPECopcSM Establishes New Rules;
Could Affect Pro/CDRS Performance

New submission, run, review and reporting rules established by SPEC/GPC's OpenGL Performance Characterization (SPECopcSM) project group have been implemented for the performance results published as of 23 June 1999.

The rules are designed to ensure that results are relevant to end-users. As a result of the new rules and a bug fix to maintain consistency between assigned colors in UNIX and Windows platforms, SPECviewperf™ has been revised from version 6.1 to 6.1.1. Viewsets have also increased by one version number. It is believed that performance results reported under SPECviewperf 6.1.1 should be comparable with those reported under Viewperf 5.0 and later versions, with one exception: The new rules for ProCDRS have necessitated some fairly severe driver changes in some cases, which could mean performance changes for some vendors. It is recommended that performance comparisons for ProCDRS be made based on the latest results found on this site, or by personalized testing using SPECviewperf 6.1.1, which can be downloaded here.

The SPECopc project rules regarding general benchmarking philosophy and optimizations can be found on the SPECopc rules page.
