SPECsmt97 Development

SPECsmt97 is an effort to update the SDM benchmark.

The goal is to have a measure of a System's Multitasking Tasking capabilities.

We are currently at work defining this benchmark. We are developing a driver to send and measure interactive commands to the system under test. We are also working on developing a standardized set of development tools (e.g. GCC, Perl, GhostScript, etc.) so that we can be sure that each system tested is actually performing the very same amount of work (and is not dependant upon the varying degrees of bells and whistles that a vendor installs).

NEW: "Perspectives on the SPEC SDET Benchmark" - A paper by Steven L. Gaede, Lone Eagle Systems, Inc.

Help?

SPEC is soliciting help for this benchmark. We think we have a good idea of what reasonable multitasking workloads look like, but we could always use some direct information from real-world sites. If you have any workload data that you are willing to share with SPEC, let us know.
